Ascot – Champions Day
Find the full Ascot Champions Day write ups and best bets for the meeting in this preview to show you everything you need for one of the best racing meetings in the world!
Long Distance Cup
This is one of the more straight forward races on the card and should just go to the most talented horse, TRAWLERMAN. He got the best of Sweet William last time out and didn’t look to be asked for his all. He likes Ascot and has nearly been unbeaten this year. Stay True could be a good stayer for the future but should be outclassed by the older horses here.
Two Year Old Condition Race
A race that may see the Godolphin operation get another winner in the form of WORDS OF TRUTH. He’s rated 112 and the next highest is 106 rated. The race will suit his style of running and he’s likely to get ground to suit and should be hard to pass here. However, SIREN SUIT looked impressive last time out and has only had 3 runs and could well improve even more for this run and could be a good e/w angle.
Sprint Stakes
This is more of a tough race to work out the winner, much like most of the sprint races in the UK. However, these races can throw out some big priced winners and also be good for e/w angles with a lot of value. Wathnan have a couple good horses for this race again this year including last years winner Kind Of Blue. However, FLORA OF BERMUDA has looked very good this season excluding the Dubai July Cup run. FLORA OF BERMUDA could be better here at a track she is good at and is a good e/w shout.

Partnering her, NO HALF MEASURES is a huge price at 25/1 considering she won the Dubai July Cup in great style and could reproduce a performance like that again here.
Champion Filly & Mare Stakes
Two good bets for this race are WAARDAH and QUISISANA who both hold good e/w angles. WAARDAH is a progressive 3yr old who has favourable weight allowance for her age, she may have untapped potential at this track and on this ground and has better claims than most of these that have had long seasons. QUISISANA is a 5yr old but her only loss in the last 5 races was in the Arc where she placed 9th but wasn’t too disgraced. This trip is definitely her best and she should be primed for this race with hopes that the Arc hasn’t taken too much out of her.
Queen Elizabeth II Stakes
This field has a lot of quality, but if they are all on their best day then FIELD OF GOLD should be far too good. The 3yr old was sublime and looked to be the new kid on the block until failing in the Sussex Stakes.

However, he was found to be lame after the race. Therefore, if all is okay here, he should put in a massive showing and 2/1 could look like a steal! If FIELD OF GOLD isn’t back to his best it may be smart to have DOCKLANDS e/w who loves it at this track. He has got the best of Rosallion before and could do it again.
Champion Stakes
This will be the highlight race of the day with every single one of these being a top class horse, however, the top 4 in the market and some of the best horses in the world. This may shape up to be Ombudsman vs DELACROIX again. However, it could be DELACROIXs time for revenge as he looks to be one of the best horses Aiden O’Brien has had. He’s only 3yr old and so has the age weight allowance but needs all to go right for him to land this prize. A horse that hasn’t been seen in over a year is ECONOMICS after he bled from the nose on his last start, you’d have to imagine they have taken their time with him and to drop him into a group 1 straight away shows confidence. If anywhere near where he was last year, he should go close as he beat the mighty Auguste Rodin on his best day.
