Cheltenham Shloer Chase 2025 Preview and Tips
The Cheltenham November meeting kicks of on Friday and some big names are on display early in the season. The big race on the Friday is the Shloer Chase which has been won by Jonbon the last two years in a row, he is in the race again this year hoping to defend it from his 6 other rivals. The Shloer Chase often acts as a measuring stick to see some potential Champion Chase contenders. This preview will break down the main runners and why this years renewal is a little bit different.
Reigning Champ
Jonbon has won the last 2 Shloer Chase races and could make it 3 in a row here. He has started all of his first runs of the season of every year with a win. However, earlier in the week he was at odds of an obvious and expected 2/5, but coming up to the race he has drifted quite significantly.

He now sits at 11/10f which would be concerning, however, there are several factors that could explain the drift. Firstly, there is a storm and there is a huge amount of rainfall due, meaning the ground may be very soft which can make the race unpredictable. Secondly, Jonbon has had wind surgery which could raises some red flags and brings in a few questions as to why he needed it. Lastly, the biggest threat in the race L’Eau du Sud is trained by Dan Skelton who is in fine form to start the season.
Who wins the Shloer Chase 2025?
It seems set up again for Jonbon to take the race for a third time in a row. Perhaps looking for value would’ve been a good idea if he had stayed 2/5 but at 11/10 the value is there. Nicky Henderson (trainer) stated that he may not be 100% but he is at the same point for this race as he was the year before and he managed to win the Shloer then very impressively. L’Eau du Sud could be a huge danger and it’s likely that Dan Skelton will have him 110% for this. However, if Jonbon does not put a foot wrong round Cheltenham, like he normally does in March, then 11/10 is a great price.
